Is it better to have 1 to 1 or small group sessions?

We typically recommend 1:1 sessions for our youngest students (grades K-3), students who have learning challenges, or students who have specialized academic subject needs (AP US History!). They require significant individual attention and support.

For our older students working on bridging learning gaps or working above grade level on challenging material, we generally recommend 4:1 sessions because these students tend to be motivated when working in the proximity of peers and small group sessions foster independence and self advocacy skills!

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I decide which session format works best for my student?

We use the academic assessment to get a sense of how your student works and responds to a teacher. We'll recommend either a 4:1 (small group) or 1:1 session based on what we learn!

1.5 hr sessions seem so long! Could my child do 30 min or an hour only?

Remember that students spend 6+ hours a day in school. And a significant part of academic success requires discipline and grit. With our small student to teacher ratios, we are able to help "stretch" students' abilities so that they build academic stamina for longer study sessions. We will recommend the duration we believe is most effective for your student's program!

How much are sessions?

Small group sessions range from $40 - $57 per hour. 1:1 sessions range from $50 - $70 per hour. In addition, we sometimes offer discounts for payment types, sibling enrollment, continuing families, etc.

Will my student get to choose their teacher or will their preferences be taken into consideration?

We assign tutors to students based on schedules, expertise, skills, and personality. As a student progresses through a program, we may also make adjustments based on how students work with a teacher or the particular skill set a student is working on. So while we always welcome feedback, we cannot guarantee specific teacher assignments.

What if my student doesn't like their teacher?

As it is in school, students sometimes don't like their teachers or need additional time to get comfortable with a new teacher. Rest assured that our staff are continuously observing and adjusting both programming and teacher assignments as we deem necessary. Our goal is to provide the best educational tutoring experience possible for your child.
