The comments we often hear from parents in our center are "I wish we'd done this earlier" or "I wish I had gotten my child help when he/she was younger." Many parents have the mistaken idea that educational tutoring is for tiger parents, kids who are failing all their classes, or "the rich." About 15% of our students fall into these categories, but the other 85% are just “every day” Elk Grove families looking for extra support.
Most parents have no qualms about signing their children up for piano lessons, baseball camps, therapy, etc. If your child is struggling with pitching on his/her baseball team, you'd likely look for a specialized coach to work with your student 1 to 1. Educational tutoring is no different, and perhaps even more critical. It helps students build foundational academic knowledge and valuable executive functioning skills so that they can be successful at school and in life. These skills are hard to perfect in a classroom of 25 students!
How do you know if your child would benefit from educational tutoring? Take note if any of the following are true:
My child struggles with homework and cannot do it independently.
My child gets low grades.
My child does poorly on tests.
My child does not seem to be able to read, write, or do math at his or her grade level.
My child needs a little more time to learn new concepts.
My child feels bored at school and finds things too easy. He/she doesn't feel challenged.
